Dear Parents and Guardians,
Hi! I am your child’s third grade teacher, Miss Kelly. This fall I will begin my eleventh year of teaching in Chicago. I have an associate degree in Elementary Education from Kalamazoo Valley Community College and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Science, English and Elementary Education from Cornerstone University and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from the American College of Education, That means I have been going to school for a long, long time! I love working in an urban setting and I love teaching. When I am not teaching or earning another degree, I paint, read, shop, go to baseball games (go Cubs!), re-do thrift store furniture and spend time with my friends and family. I am getting married in October and will change my name to Mrs. Malone, but I will probably still have the kids call me Miss Kelly. My favorite quote is from George Washington Carver who said …...
“It is not the style of clothes one wears, neither the kind of automobile one drives, nor the amount of money one has in the bank, that counts. These mean nothing. It is simply service that measures success. “
This school year, I will work very hard to make sure that your child gets everything they need to successfully finish 3rd grade. My class made a great deal of gains in reading and math last year on standardized tests, and this is a trend that I will need your help to continue. This grade is a challenging one and will require help from parents and family members at home. Please check over your child’s homework each night and help him or her with anything he or she does not understand. In March, all third grade students will take a test called the ISAT which measures their ability to meet state standards in reading and math. You can help your child prepare for this test by going to www.misskelly.educatorpages.com and having your child play computer games that cover the skills that will be tested on the ISAT.
Sincerely,
Kristen Kelly
